Meghan Werner, Owner and Lead Instructor

Meghan Werner, MPP, CYT never intended to make yoga the centerpiece of both her personal and professional life, which is just one of the reasons that "never say never" has become one of her favorite (if cliché) phrases to live by. She took her first yoga class in 1998 in a sunny barn outside Santa Barbara, CA and was instantly intrigued. She continued to take classes periodically from that point on, mainly to balance the physical demands of team sports. Years later as an undergrad and then graduate student at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, she began a dedicated, regular practice--this time motivated as much by the physical benefits as the emotional and mental components of yoga, which continue to reward and motivate her daily.

After acquiring her Master’s degree in Public Policy, Meghan moved to Washington DC and worked in the health research and pharmaceutical field; DC was where she first encountered vinyasa yoga and since she traveled almost weekly for her job, she turned her business trips into an unofficial yoga studio tour and attempted to take a class in every new city—she managed to visit 20 different studios in 10 states! Since then she has practiced many styles including Bikram, Anusara, and Iyengar but currently focuses primarily on Hatha and Vinyasa yoga. She moved to Seattle in late 2006 and has worked as a program officer in the global health field and as a yoga teacher for a variety of clients including individuals, groups, athletes, and workplaces.

Meghan completed her first teacher training in early 2006 with Katja Brandis at Studio Serenity in Washington, DC and later completed the 200-hour Yoga Alliance approved certification in Costa Rica with Jacqueline Heisel and Jennifer Yarro from Frog Lotus Yoga. She also completed the Pre/Postnatal Yoga Teacher Training with Anne Phyfe Palmer at 8 Limbs Yoga Studio in Seattle, WA and continues build on her knowledge by taking workshops, reading, and practicing yoga regularly. She recognizes that yoga is a dynamic practice and that what you need today might be different than what you needed yesterday; accordingly, she strives to give students multiple options during each class so each individual can appropriately customize the practice and maximize the benefits of each moment on the mat.

Testimonials

For me, yoga offers a form of recovery and maintenance from my workouts the rest of the week. It is clear that Meghan has tons of experience practicing yoga. She imparts this experience to her students with enthusiasm. Though I am at the level where I tend to focus on broad concepts when learning a new position, Meghan has the knowledge to go far deeper--offering multiple variations of each position for students of varying abilities.

I feel more grounded and able to focus after an hour of not thinking about anything other than my body and my breath. I find it generally incredibly calming and it lasts throughout the week even though we only practice together once a week.

You have such a calm, strong voice; the tone that you set from the beginning of the session helps me focus solely on the movement and to quiet all the thoughts that have been racing through my mind.

I come to yoga to work on my flexibility--because naturally I am not flexible--and for the calming focused exploration of stretching the limits of the body and mind.

Yoga has really helped me balance out my athletic activities. I typically have more running intensive activities without as much flexibility/stretching or arms and yoga has finally provided me with balance.

Our yoga sessions together help me not feel stressed for the day – and take things more lightly, which overall is really good.

Your style is very relaxing and fun, and I feel more energized and calm (opposites, I know, but it's true) as I go about my day after my morning yoga session with you.

I find yoga to be an incredibly relaxing AND energizing way to start the day. I really enjoy just moving and thinking about my breath and movement, and actively NOT thinking about other things. I also feel that it makes me stronger (especially my upper body which is weak, weak weak!) and more focused, physically. I find I am more deliberate in my everyday movements if I am doing yoga regularly.

You are a fantastic teacher. I love that you are super mellow and find your style really grounded and down to earth, which I appreciate immensely.

Since starting yoga with Meghan, I’ve found myself thinking about her advice even outside of class – I’ll be standing on the bus or sitting at my desk and remember her pointers about posture and body alignment. Directly after class I always feel invigorated and ready for the morning, but the effects of her teaching lasts all day.
